Anthony Joshua's Career

He started his professional boxing career on 11 July 2013 under the Matchroom Sport promotional banner. Joshua made his professional debut on 5 October 2013 at the O2 Arena in London in the main event of a card featuring Scott Quigg's successful WBA super-bantamweight title defense against Yoandris Salinas where he beat Italian Emanuele Leo by a technical knockout in the first round.

His second professional fight was against English heavyweight Paul Butlin at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield on 26 October 2013. When the referee decided Butlin was absorbing too much punishment in the second round, he stopped the fight and declared Joshua the winner by TKO. On November 14, 2013, Joshua's third fight was on the Prizefighter Series program against Croatian Hrvoje Kiiek. Joshua won by TKO in the second round, his third knockout (KO) victory in a row.

Joshua improved to 4-0 with a second-round TKO victory over Dorian Darch in February 2014. Joshua defeated Hector Alfredo Avila with a first-round KO in Glasgow, Scotland, on the undercard of Ricky Burns vs. Terence Crawford. Joshua knocked out Matt Legg in the first round of Carl Froch vs. George Groves II at Wembley Stadium in May of that year. On July 12, 2014, at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, Joshua defeated Englishman Matt Skelton via second-round stoppage in his seventh fight. Joshua improved his undefeated record to 8-0 with a third-round knockout victory over German heavyweight Konstantin Airich in his ninth bout, on September 13, 2014, at the Manchester Arena.

On 11 October 2014, Joshua competed in the main event of a Matchroom Sport card for the second time in his career, for the vacant WBC International heavyweight title against Dennis Bakhtov, the former champion looking to win the title for the second time, at The O2 Arena in London. Joshua won by KO in the second round, improving his record to 9-0 and capturing the WBC International heavyweight title at the age of 24.

On November 22, 2014, Joshua defeated Michael Sprott in the first round of his tenth fight, extending his record to ten wins, all by stoppage. With the bout lasting only 1 minute and 26 seconds, Joshua now has a total ring time of 36 minutes and 36 seconds in the professional ranks.

In his return to the ring on April 4, 2015, Joshua knocked out Jason Gavern in the third round. In his twelfth fight, Joshua defeated Raphael Zumbano Love in the second round on May 9, 2015, in Birmingham. Joshua defeated former world title challenger Kevin Johnson (29-6-1, 14 KOs) on May 30, 2015, inflicting Johnson's first career stoppage. The bout was interrupted by the referee shortly after the start of the second round after Johnson was saved by the bell in the first round. Before the bout, Johnson had gone the distance with Vitali Klitschko, Tyson Fury, and Derek Chisora. Johnson announced his retirement the day after the fight, yet he made a comeback in March 2017.

Anthony Joshua's Professional Boxing Career

At the 2015 Commonwealth Games, Anthony Joshua faced the undefeated Scottish boxer Gary Cornish for the vacant Commonwealth heavyweight title at The O2 Arena in London. Joshua claimed the vacant title by halting Cornish in the first round after only 90 seconds. Cornish was knocked out twice before the fight was declared over. 

Joshua faced Whyte in a grudge match for the vacant British heavyweight title on December 12, 2015, while simultaneously defending his Commonwealth heavyweight title for the first time. The fight aired on Sky Box Office. Joshua won the fight in the seventh round after unsettling Whyte with a right hook to the temple and then finishing with a stunning uppercut.

On 29 April 2017, he took Anthony Joshua took on Wladimir Klitschko in a heavily followed heavyweight bout which saw Joshua defeat Klitschko. AJ was ahead on two of the judges' scorecards at the time of the stoppage, 96-93 and 95-93, while Klitschko was ahead on the third, 95-93. According to CompuBox statistics, Joshua landed 107 of his 355 punches thrown (30%), while Klitschko landed 94 of 256 (37%).

In a 7 December 2019 rematch at the purpose-built Diriyah Arena in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, Anthony Joshua faced Ruiz Jr. He reclaimed the unified heavyweight championships via unanimous decision, with scores of 118-110 on two judges' scorecards and 119-109 on the other.

On 25 September 2021, Joshua lost his heavyweight title to Oleksandr Usyk at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Usyk proved unstoppable for Joshua outboxing him over 12 rounds to claim a unanimous decision victory, with scores of 117–112, 116–112, and 115–113 handing Joshua the second professional loss of his boxing career. In a rematch announced just four days after Joshua's loss, Anthony Joshua disappointingly lost again to Oleksandr Usyk who successfully defended his belts by a split decision with one judge scoring the fight 115–113 to Joshua, while the other two judges scoring it 115–113 and 116–112 in Usyk's favor.
