In our previous article, we discussed who digital nomads are, the countries they can travel to, what they need to know, and what different people think about being one. While we talked about all of these things, we also thought that you might want to know about the common jobs for nomads. Does the concept work for all jobs or specific ones? While you have a number of questions concerning the types of jobs that allow you to become a digital nomad, we've written this article to answer them by providing a list of jobs suitable for digital nomads.
Suitable Jobs for Digital Nomads
Remember that digital nomads must work remotely, therefore, they can manage what their days and time would look like since they don't need to be at the office. Here are jobs that allow them to achieve their desired work style:
Product Designers
Product designers can either be UI (User Interface) designers or UX (User Experience) designers. Both are significant to how a product pans out; a UI designer is responsible for how the product looks - the buttons, lines, navigation keys, colors, and all of that. A UX designer on the other hand ensures that users don't have issues navigating the product, users must not use the products and end up confused because it's hard to tell how it works. Product Designers can be digital nomads because all they need to have is their laptop and a few productivity tools that help them connect with other members of the team.
Graphics Designers
One of the reasons you are interested in purchasing from a brand is because you love and understand their brand identity. Graphics Designers can work from anywhere, hence, they can be digital nomads. Their job is to create a solid and original brand identity that is key to the company's goals and will forever linger in the minds of customers. Several people will see Netflix's logo and recognize it at once, the same thing applies to other brands who have a strong brand identity. Graphics Designers create logos for brands, and banners for events, marketing, or social media posts. Once they have all the working tools with them, they only need to consider delivering quality work on time.
Web Designers
It looks like all designers can be digital nomads and that's true! Web designers employ different skills to build websites that people can visit, either to get information or perform specific functions as allowed by the website. Many business owners and organizations have websites for keeping their customers engaged, answering their frequently asked questions (FAQ), and displaying their goods/products. Some brands will also have customers visit their website to make any purchase. Web designers listen and pay attention to what these brands/businesses need and work to provide an appealing and effective website.
Content/Web/Copywriters
Any type of writer can decide to become a digital nomad, exploring new places while getting the job done. Whether you are a creative writer who works for a fashion or marketing brand, a Web content writer, or a copywriter, you can adopt the workstyle if you think you love it. Writers are responsible for taking their time to write content that people find intriguing, readable, and educational. When people visit a website or access a copy, they want good information and writers must do justice to providing them with all of the necessary knowledge.
Travel Bloggers
Travel blogging sounds like the most suitable job for a digital nomad. They move from one country to another, living the experience, documenting their journeys, sharing travel tips that people might find helpful, and monetizing their craft. While travel blogging may sound like great fun, it also requires you to create good videos and written content that will communicate the experiences to people who are looking to visit these same places. If you take videos of different sceneries during the trip solely to share as content, you must take enough time to edit these videos so that your audience can find them appealing.
Software Engineers
Software engineers are mostly remote workers depending on the company they work for and this makes them liable to be digital nomads. They only have to pack a few things which necessarily include their laptops, chargers, and other work appliances. The job of a software engineer is to design, develop, and test software applications using various skills such as programming languages (Java, Python, C+, and many others). While they create software applications, they also do a lot of testing and debugging to ensure the smooth functioning of the applications.
Digital Marketers
Most digital marketers already have the liberty to work remotely because the bulk of their work happens online. Taking it a notch higher, they can switch to being digital nomads. Digital marketers use their devices to market goods/services to consumers via platforms such as emails, websites, social media, and other relevant channels. They send out content that can attract their customers and use different formats such as email marketing, content marketing, social media marketing, and even affiliate marketing. Unlike the former traditional marketing, a lot of businesses have leaned towards digital marketing to get their products in the face of the people. That the job can even be done from anywhere is a major advantage.
Visual Storytellers (Photographers)
Photographers are also called visual storytellers because they communicate different experiences with the type of pictures they take. While some photographers are wedding photographers, some are documentary photographers. It is even more interesting for documentary photographers to be digital nomads as it gives them more opportunities and access to good and valuable content. Also, being a digital nomad as a photographer effortlessly enables you to capture authentic moments of people, places, and things.
Virtual Assistants
Primarily, the job description of a virtual assistant involves tasks that can be done from home which makes it appropriate for the digital nomad work style. The responsibilities of a virtual assistant include providing administrative and organizational support to clients or individuals who might need it. Their work includes sending emails, scheduling appointments, arranging meetings, and conducting research on behalf of the client. All of these tasks can be carried out once a virtual assistant has access to a good laptop, an uninterrupted power supply, and a stable internet connection.
