Dangote Group: Aliko Dangote to begin 300,000 Employments in Nigeria

The Dangote Group is on a mission to create more jobs in Nigeria. The richest man in Nigeria, Dangote is sure that his multi-billion naira investment in the sugar sub-sector will create not less than 300,000 jobs for Nigerians. The statement from the Corporate Communication department of the Group quoted Aliko Dangote. He is planning to expand the operations in the sugar sub-sector and will release more funds.

Why Dangote Group is creating job opportunities

Dangote who spoke at the Flag off Ceremony of the 2022/2023 Crushing Season and Outgrower Scheme Awards in Numan, Adamawa state, made it clear that job opportunities will emerge from Dangote Groups, and will include both indirect and direct jobs. The richest man in Nigeria said he is certain that the huge investment will provide not less than 300,000 jobs for Nigerians.

In his words Aliko Dangote said, we are bringing in a huge investment in Adamawa state through the expansion of the DSR Numan’s sugar refining capacity from 3000tcd to 6000tcd, 9800tcd up to 15,000tcd. The DSR will help in the creation of around three hundred thousand jobs, which will have a great multiplier effect on Nigeria’s economy. The job opportunities will either be direct or indirect jobs.

His Effort to create more jobs

The Dangote Group remains the largest organization with workers outside the government. Dangote was chosen to serve as the National Job Creation Committee's chairman in 2010 to support the Federal Government to give Nigerians more employment opportunities. In addition, the president of Dangote revealed that his company would quadruple the amount it spent on CSR programs in Adamawa State, where its 32,000-hectare integrated sugar complex is situated.

The reaction from the government

The reaction from the government came from the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, who described Dangote Groups as one of the biggest contributors that have helped the Federal Government in their efforts towards sugar development. Otunba appreciates Dangote for his support through the use of his Corporate Social Responsibility scheme. Dangote Cement Plc is already one of Africa's largest employers in the industrial industry. According to him, organizations in his ministry would collaborate with the business to offer the technical know-how necessary to support the Dangote empowerment programs in the host communities.

Dangote Increases Sugar Investment

Nigerian sugar production self-sufficiency is the primary goal of Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc. The company aims to produce 1.5 to 2.0 million tonnes of refined sugar every year. From more than 150,000 hectares of locally grown sugar cane by the year 2024. Thereby helping Nigeria in becoming self-sufficient in sugar production by moving from importation and refining to the creation of new plantations with their own refining facilities.

The foundation for backward integration in the sector is the Nigerian Sugar Master Plan of 2012. The goal was to increase local sugar production such that it would become self-sufficient by 2020. So that it would also help with ethanol production and electricity production. Aliko Dangote, the president of the Dangote Group, recently declared that, in respect to the Nigeria Sugar Master Plan's (NSMP) requirements. The Dangote Sugar Refinery (DSR) Plc is significantly increasing its investment in the sugar sub-sector.

The company has decided to expand its sugar cultivation from the existing land area under cane production of around 8,700 hectares in 2022 to roughly 24,200 hectares within the next seven years. He said, noting that doing so will cause a comparable increase in sugarcane production capacity. Additionally, he promised that the business would quadruple its empowerment and scholarship programs in its host communities, in Adamawa state. Dangote further affirmed that Dangote Sugar would alter the trajectory by achieving Nigerian self-sufficiency. Noting that the business had already invested billions of naira in the construction of infrastructure for host communities.
