If you use social media a lot, you must be familiar with how people have leaned toward the business of crocheting. Using knitting pins and wools to create different clothing items has been on for a very long time but now, the approach is different and fashion trends have brought it right into the market again. Now, several creatives are using platforms like Instagram and Pinterest to showcase their crochet creations, and it has become a stylish way to create extraordinary clothing items and accessories.
What is Crocheting?
Crocheting is the art of using a crochet hook, along with yarn or thread to create fabric or other items by interlocking loops. It involves pulling loops of the material through other loops to form various patterns and textures, mostly used to make clothing, accessories, blankets, and more. The idea of crocheting is for creative people who know how to think outside the box and bring a particular design to life.
For many creatives, crocheting takes several days to complete depending on the item that is being made. It is also important to note that most crochet creatives here in Nigeria use their hands and there is no machine for every of the processes. While this may look impossible, it is just an indication of resilience and doggedness which explains that creativity is not enough reason to just want to start your crocheting business but you must be willing to be quite hardworking.
How much does Crocheting Materials cost?
The only materials you will need to begin your crocheting journey are the crocheting hooks and the yarns. However, the quantity of yarn will depend on the item you are trying to make. As seen on Jumia, the least amount you can buy a set of crochet hooks is about N6000 for 14 pieces while the yarns are about N7500 for 20 pieces.
How well does the crocheting business pay?
Making different items by crocheting is big work and because of this, creatives charge accordingly for whatever product they make. As seen on Ore Akinde's blog, a popular crochet-making brand in Nigeria - by_Ore, the price of jumpers and sweaters ranges from N80,000 - N150,000 exclusive of delivery fee. There are other brands that don't charge as much but this doesn't mean that the prices are not worth their hard work either.
