How to Find Jobs Abroad

We already know how finding jobs abroad sounds to you - something like a lot of work. Maybe, maybe not. But, knowing that it comes with a lot of prospects and opportunities is enough reason to want to pursue it. While most people are currently leaving Nigeria for other countries, the excuse is to find greener pastures and some people say that it is to get degrees. Whichever way, you need jobs that will pay enough to get you to live the life that you want. If you have great skills and are looking to work abroad, that's fine, but other requirements must accompany your skills and we will discuss them in this article. 

What work do you want?

This is your first point of action if you need to get a job abroad; you need to determine the type of job you need. The only way to do this is to outline your skills and decide what you are good at doing; you may have been a graphics designer who switched to being a product designer. Yes, you have both skills but you need to decide which you would like to offer and this may require you to do some research and put some factors into consideration. Like, how much do they need graphic designers? Are product designers really in demand in the particular country you have in mind? Decide on the services you are moving abroad to offer, then use your decision as a guide to making other plans. However, you must know that various industries may value different skills, and while it is okay to have a technical skill, do not sleep on soft skills too.  

Decide on a country 

This is one of the most critical decisions to make as you may not have a clear-cut idea about what country to choose until you do your research. Of course, you probably have some in mind, you are just having a hard time deciding. So, go ahead to see which offers the most employment opportunities and check if your skill set is in demand. You will need a work permit and visa, and this is one important element you need to consider. Check the immigration policies and work permit requirements of these countries to be sure that you are eligible for a work visa. When deciding on a country for work, be sure that you would be able to navigate the visa application process and any restrictions that may apply. Some of the aims of making a good decision about a country you would like to work in are ensuring that you would be working legally, surviving the cost of living, and enjoying an overall quality of life.

Apply to companies with limited staff

You know how companies are differently sized, while some companies may have 50-100 employees, some may have 10 - 20 or even lesser. However, to increase your chances of finding a job abroad, you may want to apply to a company with limited qualified staff.  This will help you to encounter less competition compared to larger organizations where numerous candidates vie for numerous positions. Considering that smaller organizations usually have specific needs, they may be willing to employ international candidates who bring diverse perspectives and skills. Having limited staff may also mean that they do not have enough quality and may have a higher demand for talent. 

You can also apply to bigger companies

You may harbor the thoughts that bigger companies may not give you jobs but the truth is, you would not know until you do it. While sending applications to new or small companies, If you think your soft and technical skills are top-notch, send in your applications to global companies too. That way, you are not just aiming for a higher system but also not putting all your eggs in one basket. Big companies allow you to enjoy enhanced benefits which can include a pay rise, vacation, and other incentives.

Create the most catchy resume

Make sure you put so much effort into creating your resume. Take all the time you need and don't make mistakes or let any form of oversight happen. International companies are usually careful and articulate when reviewing resumes and CVs; so, if you are looking to get a job, your resume needs to impress them. Match your resume with the company's requirements for skills and qualifications. If you are attaching a cover letter, communicate your willingness to relocate to the country.

If the team of an organization reaches out to you concerning an interview, talk about your availability for the interview. But if the company requires that you come into the office (which is rare), you can make plans to travel into the country before the day of the interview.

You may not want to be a bother to them by checking in regularly for a follow-up but consistently, check your email and be hopeful for the best.
