The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in partnership with Coursera has announced that it is now taking applications into the Cohort 3 of Coursera Courses.
The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) was created to carry out the National Digital Economy policy in Nigeria. The role of this body involves setting up a structure for planning, research, development, standardization, application, coordination, monitoring, evaluation, and regulation of Information Technology practices in the country.
Mrs. Hadiza Umar, Head of Corporate Affairs and External Relations at NITDA urged for support and emphasized that the plan DTA aligns with the agency's commitment to actualize President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, with plans to generate one million digital jobs in the Information Technology sector.
According to Mrs Hadiza, NITDA and Coursera initiated a collaboration on October 19, 2022, to address the significant issue of youth unemployment, which was recorded at 19.6 percent in 2021.
What's the plan for people who need a skill?
When the partnership kicked off in 2022, the partnership sought to annually train 8,000 Nigerian learners, dividing them into cohorts of 4,000 learners each, with a cumulative target of 24,000 learners over three years.
Coursera grants NITDA's chosen learners entry to high-quality educational materials from leading universities and industry giants, such as Yale, Meta, Google, and IBM. Also, Coursera will assist the Nigerian government in enhancing the technical skills of the nation's youth and nurturing IT talent.
What do you need to know about the NITDA × Coursera Program?
NITDA's collaboration with Coursera would provide Nigerian learners with entry to Coursera's collection of Professional Certificates.
The portfolio of certificates is designed to empower learners, enabling them to acquire the skills needed to pass an industry certification exam or kickstart a career in a particular field, like IT support, within a three-month timeframe. With this opportunity, learners can start a career in:
Data Analytics

The skills that will be focused on in Cohort 3 suit the 3 Million Tech Talent (3MTT) initiative by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy. Participants will have to engage in courses covering areas such as:
