New Online Passport Application Portal Goes Live

The Minister for Interior in Nigeria, Honourable Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has announced that a new online application for an international passport will launch today, 8th January, 2024. 

On Friday, 5th January 2024, the minister conducted an online portal demonstration alongside Mrs. Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju, the Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service. Various key stakeholders and development partners were present during the session to witness the demonstration.

According to the Minister, Nigerians at home and in the diaspora deserve the best. Before now, Nigerians, after capturing their biometrics for their passports, have to wait for about 3 months or more before receiving them. 

However, during the session, there was a chance to showcase and thoroughly evaluate the new automated passport application process. Also, constructive feedback was welcomed to facilitate improvements and advancements in the system. This automated passport application process means a better experience for Nigerians who would be applying for an international passport going forward. 

"The Nigerian passport must regain its integrity in the international community," Honourable Olubunmi said. He also added that "Nigerians do not have to sweat or suffer to get their passports. A team from the ministry will kickstart supervision of the E8 mandate in the UK, as the first place on the assignment," revealing that this development extends to even people outside of the country. 

While sharing all of these, the price, category, and validity of the passports were also communicated: 

• 5 years, 32 Pages - N25,000

• 10 years, 64 Pages - N70,000

Nigerians, both at home and abroad have been urged to go and apply for their international passports at https://passport.immigration.gov.ng/ and expect it to be ready 3 weeks after capturing their biometrics.
