Another interesting thing we think you should know is that there are jobs available within the union even if you are an artisan. The NURTW (National Union of Road Transport Workers) is a whole sector that thrives on different talents to maintain its functionality. 

What does a NURTW Job for an artisan mean? 

People who can create products or get certain jobs done with their hands wholly or partly are artisans and they can find job opportunities within the NURTW. Wondering what these jobs could be? Right here for you! 

Agents

NURTW agents are more like representatives positioned at different strategic locations to collect dues from commercial drivers. While all you have to do to begin the job is to register your name as an agent and get the uniform, you will also be given a bundle of tickets to sell to the drivers. As an agent, these tickets are issued to drivers and a certain amount is collected. Also, they work throughout the day as money has to be collected from every driver within that jurisdiction in the morning, afternoon, and night. 

Vehicle Mechanics

The transport unions have vehicles used for the union's purpose. If anything goes wrong with these vehicles, mechanics are responsible for repair and maintenance. They have to make sure that all vehicles are in perfect working condition. Only individuals with mechanical skills can pass for this position. Some of the technical expertise required to work this job include familiarity with mechanical parts and vehicle systems which aids the ability to identify and assess problems in any vehicle. 

Taxi/Bus Drivers

Taxi and Bus drivers make up the largest part of the NURTW because they are responsible for transporting passengers from one location to another. This makes their skill particularly significant. Depending on the regulations of the union, they charge individuals who do not own a car a cost to move them alongside other people to their desired location. To be a taxi/bus driver, you must have good driving skills and an incredible people relation to attract passengers. 

Bus Conductors

Bus Conductors make the job easier for bus drivers because they help to coordinate the passengers in the vehicle while collecting the transport fare from each one of them. Also, they help to organize the entry and exit of passengers from the bus while alerting them of various bus stops.  This helps the driver focus and be less distracted ensuring the safety of the driver and passengers. 

Vulcanizers

Vulcanizers are usually found in motor parks or garages and if not, they would be at strategic locations such as the roadsides. Flat tires are sometimes unavoidable, hence, it is the job of a vulcanizer to repair the tires by restoring them to their normal state using a machine. Vulcanizers can identify the point of damage which is mostly caused by sharp objects such as broken bottles, nails, or even wear and tear. They are incredible assets to the NURTW because of their valuable skills and contributions. 

Panel Beaters/Spray Painters

The job of a panel beater is to renew the body of a vehicle that was damaged due to overuse or an accident. Panel beaters employ their skills to shape, align, and repair metal panels. They may also have to repaint the vehicle depending on the severity of the damage, the point is to conceal the defects and make the vehicle look good again. Apart from making the vehicle look attractive, it also gives it a long-lasting effect that prevents the metals from becoming rusty easily. 

Auto Glass Technicians

While panel beaters can make damaged vehicles look good again, if the windshields or windows come off, only glass technicians will be able to fix them. This is because they are equipped with the skills and knowledge to repair the broken vehicle glass. Most times when you are unsure about the next course of action for your damaged glass, the glass technicians present you with options that will effectively remedy the solution.
