Random Career Advice You Should take to heart in 2024

You must have heard a lot of career advice to last you a lifetime; a series of "do this, don't do that, and never be those." Sometimes, they even sound the same way and along the line, they mean the same thing to you. The thing is that you want to hear more career advice but the ones that you can relate to, are the ones you have probably never thought of and of course, realistic ones.

Regardless of whatever field you currently find yourself in or the type of job that you have going for you, these tips should never leave you hanging.

If you want to get a higher salary, get a new job

While it is possible to talk of a "salary raise" with your employer, it may not happen as fast and as much as you want it to. So, your best bet is to look for a new job and bargain a higher salary. This is not to say that you will not get your salary raise "if you ask" but chances are you will get something higher even with a new job.

Talk about your work often

If you work in an environment that permits you to say something to someone each time, talk about your work. Tell them what you do because you never can tell if it would earn you or your company a good opportunity. Don't stop talking about your work, there is no reward for someone who doesn't put themselves out there.

It is necessary to converse with someone who has walked your career path

This should come in handy for anyone who just started their career. Find someone that you think will be able to answer all of the questions that you have. Don't keep to yourself or continuously tell yourself that you can figure out things on your own when you can have someone show you the way.

Rather than make mistakes, ask questions

Some mistakes will cost you a lot. So, instead of going ahead to do what "you think is right," ask questions that will let you know if you are on the right path. This method not only helps in confirming the correctness of your actions but also nurtures a mindset of continuous learning and improvement.

Ask for help when things get overwhelming

You are human and not a robot. So, no one expects you to continue working until it feels like so much weight on your shoulders. Ask for help when you need it, it doesn't signify that you are weak - it only says that you care enough about your mental health and you are not looking to burn out.

Give your best at your job but have a good work life balance

You may have to constantly remind yourself that "your job'' is only a part of your life and not its entirety. So, while you want to put in all of your best, be sure that you are working towards having a good work life balance. When it is necessary, take a break; it is never the best thing to clock out of rest while you work nonstop.

At every opportunity that you get, improve your skills

Everyday, everything changes and this is enough reason for you to want to improve the skills that you already have. If you see any free course, take it. Be sure to milk every single opportunity that you get to upskill. Improving your skills can give you an edge over other workers and can even encourage you to apply for jobs with higher pay.

Be visible for opportunities

Lots of opportunities abound for career people but it is important that you are visible for these opportunities. Your name will only be suggested for a position if you have put yourself out there countless times. You can only win an award if you have decided to participate in a program. Come out of your shell, and position yourself strategically for opportunities to come your way.

Never wait till you get to the threshold before you leave a toxic work environment

If you feel like a workplace no longer works for your mental health, don't wait till you are too damaged before you leave. If you stay for too long, it might affect how you see subsequent workplaces because your mindset has been ruined. Protect whatever you have left and move on to other things or places.

Document your achievement, every step of the way

No feat is small. So, for every milestone that you reach, you want to keep a record of every single thing. If you wrote 5000 words in a week, got a new role, got promoted at work or finished a project, write it in your journal. Keep all of these events as they can help you in the long run - on the days that you feel weary and even on days that you need to blow your own trumpet.

There is always new career advice, you can bump into some in 6 months and others in a year. As a career person, you always have profitable information to binge on. Never discard them, try your best to put some to heart and one day, each one might just fit a situation you find yourself in.
