Sam Altman Reclaims his Mandate, Returns as CEO of OpenAI

Sam Altman has been reinstated as the CEO of OpenAI shortly after being dismissed from the role.

Earlier this week, there have been a series of events happening at the OpenAi headquarters, from Sam Altman being fired by OpenAi and being hired by Microsoft. It was perceived that Sam was intentionally fired by the board at OpenAi who had something against him.

George Brockman was the head of the board at the time Sam was fired but because the decision didn't go down well with him he stepped down from being the board leader. Now that it looks like things have gone back to normal, George has also returned to OpenAI to continue his job. He tweeted earlier today "Returning to OpenAI and getting back to coding done tonight."

While Sam goes back to his position as CEO, a new board has been installed. According to a statement released by the company, they said; "We have reached an agreement in principle for Sam Altman to return to OpenAI as CEO with a new initial board of Bret Taylor (Chair), Larry Summers, and Adam D'Angelo. We are collaborating to figure out the details. Thank you so much for your patience through this."

This already implies that the board that got Sam fired was taken out of the way and now he has to work with new ones. Sam took to his X page after the announcement was made by OpenAI, he tweeted; "I love Openai, and everything I’ve done over the past few days has been in service of keeping this team and its mission together. When I decided to join msft on Sunday evening, it was clear that was the best path for me and the team. With the new board and Satya’s support, I’m looking forward to returning to Openai, and building on our strong partnership with msft."

Several users who have followed the OpenAI story from the beginning had a thing or two to say about how things panned out and did not fail to express how they felt about the situation.

One of the X users replied to Sam's tweet about going back to OpenAI saying "Wow, this has been the biggest twist and turn we’ve experienced in the Tech industry in a while. Glad you’re back to leading OpenAI now 👏''

Another user quoted the tweet "Everyone at OpenAI, including yourself, the board and key employees involved in this mess need to be fully transparent about what actually happened."

While some people were happy that Sam got his role back, others think that everyone at OpenAI pulled a stunt that could pass for marketing and wasted everyone's time.

However, the most important thing is that the Saga is over and things are back to normal at the company.
