There is a news from the Nigeria’s biggest health tertiary institution, the University College Hospital (UCH). The institution located in Ibadan said there has been over 600 health workers who have resigned in the last one year as said by the CMD. Not more than 15 resignation letters come to my table every week. The Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof. Abiodun Otegbayo made this revelation yesterday as he confirmed different resignations from workers.
Why the Health Workers Resigned
While speaking at the gathering to honor the 65th Founder’s Day Celebrations of the Hospital. He said, at every week I always receive different resignation letters from at least 15 clinical workers of the institution. They are mostly doctors, nurses, and pharmacists among many others. He voiced out so that the needed replacement of the vacant spaces of the health workers can be done. From the year 2020 till October 15, 2022, about 661 staff have left work to travel to other countries. The wave will continue for a while, and the repercussion won’t be good for the country. In about 5 years from now, the impact will be felt.
How to find replacement for the clinical workers
Otagbayo said the Federal Ministry of Health has created a committee to look into the keeping of clinical workers. The committees of CMDs have come up with different opinions to ensure the replacement of staff with help from the governments.

The problems faced by the UCH
According to Otegbayo, hindrances the hospital faced in providing training, research, and healthcare services have included the high cost of fuel to inconsistent electricity supply from the national grid, bureaucratic hurdles in installing new staff, and low people's opinions and expectations. He praised the members of the staff of the facility for their commitment to improving the facility by giving their all and treating the patients with dignity.
Some Accomplishments in the Institution
The organization will keep moving forward, according to the chief medical director. Since infrastructure and facilities are being repaired more about the human capital development. To enhance health services, Otegbayo stated that the hospital has gotten two sets of Auto Clave, 64-Slice CT equipment as well as two mammography machines. In addition to the hospital's accomplishments since he took over as CMD. Professor Otegbayo said that emergency medicine training has begun at the facility for the very first time in Nigeria. The expansion and facelift of the University College Hospital may be one of our most notable accomplishments in the last 65 years of our existence. As I've already mentioned, though, we've made progress since the scorecards were created. We've kept up with our undertakings, added new equipment, gotten additional support, and better our services.
