TikTok to Double Staff As Tech Companies Layoff Thousands

The thought of being laid off by a company has filled so many affected people's hearts. But with that, one of the biggest media companies TikTok has said it will double its staff. The video media app has said it will remain to stand on its commitment and goals to hiring close to a thousand engineers. This was confirmed by a reliable source to CNN on Monday. The goal of TikTok is to ensure US user data, is overseen by a group based in the United States due to the scrutiny in Washington. The news about the TikTok hiring plan was first released by a news outlet called The Information.

The words of TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew

The media company is still recruiting as said by the CEO in a forum meeting in Singapore at the Bloomberg New Economy gathering. He uttered this statement when responding to the topic of layoffs in tech companies, not excluding Facebook-parent Meta, Twitter, and Amazon. Chew said, we have been very cautious in terms of hiring new staff. We can say that at this stage of our growth, our pace, and cadence, of hiring is good for us.

Tech Companies and reasons for Layoffs

Remember that some weeks ago, we had different news about massive layoffs from Meta. They laid off 11,000 workers across the whole company. Twitter also job cut more than half of its members under the administration of Elon Musk. Amazon Inc also confirmed its mass range layoff. The bosses of these companies said they have grown too fast, most especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, because many customers shifted their lives online.

This has made tech companies face some whiplash, thereby resulting in layoffs. As of October, the report has it that, there were hiring freezes and other cost-cutting measures from Silicon Valley. TikTok was in the news when they listed some new e-commerce-related positions. Which indicated they were creating warehouse and logistic networks in the United States.

Chew said, we are still hiring, though this is at a pace that we think corresponds with the global problems we are facing.
