Many people have worked more as freelancers than someone who turns into the office at 9 am and leaves at 5 pm. Also, there are others who have never explored the corporate world and this is more like their first time within the office environment.
We know that you must have heard all the popular corporate dos - be a great communicator, do good work, find bonding interesting, and all of its variants. This time, we think that it is even better if you know some truths that can help you navigate the corporate world.
Remember that truths are not exactly things that people want to hear and this means that they may sound severe. However, you must always remember them every step of the way in your career journey especially if you belong to the corporate world.
You are replaceable. Always take care of yourself
If you work 9 am - 5 am every day, don't skip your breaks or meals. Take good care of your mental and physical health if you want to work for a long time. Failure to make your health a priority causes a decline that may finally lead to job loss. An organization will not want to go on with someone with bad health and before you know it, your role is up for hire. As much as you want to keep your job, you want to take good care of yourself too.

Have a solid plan. Anything can happen to your job
Considering the current economy of the country and how most companies are either packing up or laying off a substantial number of workers, you may have to put a valid plan in place. This plan could include saving a good amount of money that can help your finances if anything happens or even taking courses for other skills that can quickly get you a job. Also, making a good plan can mean having a side hustle that you can always fall back to.

Don't stay where you are underpaid
Wherever you are underpaid, you are undervalued. Think of what you are worth and be sure that you are not taking anything less than that. If you continue to stay where you are underpaid, nothing improves and your career goes down the line. When you feel like it is necessary, ask for a raise; if you get it, good but if you don't, you may have to start looking for alternatives that financially appreciate your craft better.

Don't overshare with your colleagues
The office is a professional environment and this means that there should be a limit to the matters discussed. While it may be tempting to overshare, you shouldn't do it at all. Colleagues may have varying comfort levels with personal disclosures, and keeping conversations centered on work-related matters creates a more conducive and inclusive professional environment. Also, oversharing can potentially lead to discomfort, misunderstandings, or even compromise one's professional image.
A toxic work environment can change you if you don't leave early enough
If a work environment begins to feel toxic and you are no longer having a good time doing your job, it's best to quit before it affects how you will view other workplaces and job roles. The longer one remains in such an environment, the greater the risk of it influencing not only job satisfaction but also personal perspectives on work in general. Continuous exposure to negativity, unresolved conflicts, or a lack of support can wear away your enthusiasm and passion for the job.
The corporate world is a big one on its own, whether you work from home or show up at the office every day. You must take bold steps to survive as it's not just a walk in the park. A part of the bold step is having the information shared above at your fingertips while you walk through each phase of your career.
