How to respond to a job offer when waiting for other offers

Dealing with a job offer while still awaiting other potential offers can be incredibly difficult as it places you at crossroads where you must make decisions without any margin for regret. However, regardless of how dicey the situation may look, it is important to approach it more professionally and thoughtfully. Several people have blown the opportunity because they could not make a decision, which is quite understandable. But, you must know that there is a way to do it, and it is not an unsolvable situation. We have provided simple tips to address this situation whenever it looks like you are about to experience it.

Show Gratitude 

Getting a job offer is some sort of good news and you must express how grateful you are for the opportunity. Say something about you being thrilled to join the team, and let them catch a glimpse of your excitement, that's an even better way to convey your appreciation. 

Request to review the offer letter

Requesting an offer letter doesn't necessarily mean that you have accepted the job, however, you can make it clear to the recruiter that you would love to review the details and revert. In the real sense, the intention of making such a request is to thoroughly evaluate the offer details and assess how they align or if they pose better opportunities compared to the pending companies.  Analyzing these details will help you to decide on what to do. 

Follow up on the pending companies

You can send an email; to thank the pending companies for opening up such an opportunity in the first place. Then go ahead and remind them of the position you applied for and when you sent in your application; this way, your application can be easily located on their database. Respectfully, request an update on the status of your application. If you think it is worth it, let them know that you have received an offer as this can fast-track their decision-making. They should reach out to you shortly if they consider you a huge talent for their organization. 

Negotiate your offer

If it seems like the companies you're waiting to hear back from are not contacting you, but their compensation offers are more appealing, you can try negotiating with the company that has already accepted you. Restate your skills, demonstrate how you can contribute even more to their organization, and ask if they would be willing to increase the compensation to meet your desired level. To strengthen your case for a higher remuneration package, you can share your most recent accomplishment to justify your request. Be flexible and be willing to hear what the organization is proposing;  If it is a bit higher than the initial remuneration but still not what you suggested, you should consider accepting it. At least, it has moved from the original salary to something higher. 

Accept your Job offer
